Do liberals just ignore the argument?

I just made a question regarding regulation and in the responses I got back were all completely oblivious to the point I had made. They said "so you don't want regulation, etc?". And yet I had just finished making the point that the idea of regulating corruption was flawed inherently, because if people are corrupt then the voters and politicians, being people, will also be corrupt; thus either people are immoral, in which case you can't have regulations (because politicians will be immoral, being people) or people are moral in which case you don't need extensive regulations. And yet they completely ignored this point.
